Celebrating 10 Years-Tip To Self

As a little girl, I was obsessed with animals—especially dogs—so naturally, I thought I’d be a vet! But life took a detour into the beauty world, where I worked with Estée Lauder Companies and Nordstrom, moving up the ranks and feeling like Cinderella every step of the way—the glass slipper fit. The people and these companies were like my fairy godmothers, shaping who I am today.

Then, I took a leap to the brand side of the business, soaking up new experiences and building lasting friendships. 26 years flew by with endless memories, weekly check-ins, and even those who’ve drifted apart still cross my mind.

In 2014, I launched my own company (cue sleepless nights and gray hairs!) with the support of my beauty community, and I’m thrilled to say they remain my friends and mentors 10 years later. Staying innovative and creative has always been my mantra, and now I’m paying it forward with my Emerging Brand Mentorship Program—a way to give back to the industry I love.

Looking back, I can’t help but reminisce about the iconic stores that were part of my journey. Remember The Broadway? Bustling beauty counters right at the mall entrance! Or Henri Bendel with its famous brown-and-white stripes, and the luxury of Barney’s on Madison Ave. Lord & Taylor, with its stunning holiday window displays, was another 5th Ave staple until it closed its doors in 2021.

Boulder-based Pharmaca had such a unique vibe, blending traditional pharmacy with holistic health—so sad they closed in 2023. Same with Follain, a Boston-based clean beauty pioneer that shut down last year. These legendary shops and the people in them left a beautiful mark on my career.

The one tip I would give to myself or any entrepreneur is to use every day as an opportunity to listen and learn.

Now, as I look ahead, I’m excited for the next decade with my beauty community, continuing to grow with the brands and stores that inspire me every day. Cheers to what’s next!
