Three Lessons 2025 Taught Me About Beauty, Retail & the Road Ahead

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

As retail experienced its biggest rollercoaster ride since COVID-19, I found myself surrounded by brands grappling with the same core question: How do we move forward with our dreams in an industry that feels more complex, costly, and competitive than ever?

Between tariffs, retail margins, store closures, rising operational costs, and big-ticket expenses like review syndication, the pressure is real. Brands are trying to get picked, stand out, and—most importantly—stay in the game. And while everyone wants the magic formula, the truth is… there isn’t one.

Each brand. Each account. Each dream retailer.
They all require their own formula.

In essence, the strategy to succeed beyond DTC must be tailored to the brand and to the specific distribution point they are targeting. One size does not fit all—and 2025 made that clearer than ever.

Three lessons consistently wove themselves through my work last year:

Lesson #1: Go Slow. Be Methodical.

The next phase of your company’s growth deserves intention—not impulse.

It is expensive to jump into retail. Preparation, patience, and pacing matter more than ever. A slower pace is not a setback—it’s a smarter pace. Brands that take the time to operationally, financially, and strategically prepare are the ones positioned for longevity.

Lesson #2: Digital Reigns Queen in Beauty

Your digital presence is no longer optional—it’s essential.

Buyers are forming opinions long before meetings ever happen. If your website, social presence, and brand storytelling are not compelling, cohesive, and current, sales growth will be limited. Period. Digital is the storefront before the storefront—and it must reflect your best self.

Lesson #3: If You’re Truly Bootstrapped, Spend Where It Matters

This one is big.

If you’re building with limited resources, avoid spending on things that don’t directly move the needle:

  • New computers when the old ones work

  • High-end office space

  • Excessive travel

  • Launching new products when your current assortment hasn’t fully expanded or launched

Assortments do not have to be big to be successful. Focus. Clarity. Discipline.
That’s where growth lives.

My 2025 Reflections

As for me, 2025 was full of milestones I’m incredibly proud of:

  • Launched my new website

  • Took five brands through a mentorship program (yes—free)

  • Delivered seven tailored education courses for brands at different stages

  • Launched four brands into retail

  • Curated a collective team of seasoned experts across multiple beauty categories

It was a year of building, teaching, and cheering brands forward.

Looking Ahead to 2026

As I step into 2026, my focus remains clear: education first.
It is the core pillar of my company.

When brands understand the landscape, it helps them structure smarter budgets, create realistic go-to-market strategies, and build with confidence. My mission is to support the brand community, demystify the process, and help those dreams turn into reality.

If you’re building, dreaming, or navigating what’s next—I’m here for you.
